Higher Education Standards
The Senator has an equally strong commitment to making college accessible and affordable for all qualified students. He is a strong advocate of increased financial aid through grants and student loans. The rising cost of tuition and the difficulty in financing a college education discourage too many students from pursuing their education. We should do all we can to make sure that all of our best and brightest can succeed. Senator Kennedy is also the leader in Congress in calling for greater priority for early childhood education, so that very young children have effective learning opportunities as well, before they enter school. In education, he is a strong voice for continuing education for adults to enable them to obtain the skills they need to keep their job or change their job in today’s rapidly changing global economy. Senator Kennedy has worked tirelessly to improve American education. A great deal has been accomplished—but there is still much more to do. Senator Kennedy wants to continue to make our schools better, and to give students the support they need to be successful. Recruiting more and better teachers and investing in school improvements are at the heart of Senator Kennedy’s plan to strengthen public schools.
